poor driveabiltiy 200 1983

ok lets just start with the symptoms:

1) runs hot (between 1/2 way and just under the red) gets hotter on highway
2) poor shifting? or perhaps bogged down when i step on the gas. this is intermittent, seems to happen more when still warming up.

here's what i've done:
1) flushed the tranny and changed the screen inside (automatic)

2) sprayed out radiator to remove debris and such to make sure it can breathe

3) thought it may be a clogged catalytic converter. so i pulled the plug for the O2 sensor to alleviate any high back-pressure. this did not help. i wanted to believe it did, maybe it did just a weeeee bit. but not enough to be relieved.

this is what happens when "it" happens, to the best of my describing abilities:
from a stop, it inches along, if i floor it nothing changes, no engine revving, it just keeps inching along, but builds speed very slowly until it begins to go faster and faster, until it reaches road speed (30ish) and then will accelerate normally. but sometimes if i floor it from a dead stop, it drives and builds speed like normal, only i'm flooring it so i have to let off the gas when i get to the speed limit.

also could be described as it feels like it may be shifting too early? kick-down cable adjustment?

soooooo.............. any thoughts?
i'm sure these symptoms are not correlated, but just in case someone cans spot something...
thanks!
