Due to the rarity of this accessory, I have found little info on it generally. Specifically, I'm wondering if there are any common glitches or failures associated with the circuitry. The reason I ask is that I finally got around to installing this gauge this past weekend. It had sat in a drawer for about 3.5 years after I won it on ebay. I also picked up the interior switch/sensor that enables the gauge to read the cabin temperature as well. Anyway, after finally getting everything installed where it should be, I fired up the car and to my delight the display read 22 C outside, and when I pushed the rocker switch, it read 24 C inside, which as far as I could tell was just about right. I did this a few times with glee and a sense of accomplishment. The only trouble was that I think I had the switch wired wrong, as the switch light remained lit at all times, even when not depressed. So I turned off the car and rewired the switch, but did NOT touch any of the other wires in the gauge wiring harness. When I turned the car on again the gauge was dead - no readings at all. I then wired it again as it was the first time, and still nothing (though I can't see the switch causing it to totally fail). So after all those hours of fiddling, running wires, fabricating connectors, etc., and only having a brief moment of victory, I am now without an accurate temperature reading.
I know it's a long shot, but can anyone help? Is there a weak soldering spot on these as with the speedos of the same vintage? Bad capacitors or anything like that? It worked initially for a few minutes, and now nothing. I know the gauge is wired correctly as I have OEM installation instructions that I followed closely. Thanks in advance.
