1988 244 DL with AW auto
The transmission in this car was one I removed from a 1991 244 at the local pick and pull. The original transmission in the 1988 had been in the trunk when I acquired the car. I sold this car to my son's girlfriend this spring.
What I had not noticed until today was how much higher the transmission dipstick was than in my other Volvos. This is a picture I took today. As you can see the top of the transmission dipstick is about the same height as the crankcase dipstick A quick check of an 89 244 confirmed that the transmission dipstick was much lower when compared to the one in the photo.

The dipsticks themselves are the same length. Since the dipstick in the “long” tube does not go as far down I would assume that I am not getting an accurate check on the fluid level. The transmission would need to be overfilled in order for it to show as full on the dipstick.
Does anyone have a dipstick that compares to the one in the photo? If you do would you mind measuring the length of the dipstick itself and letting me know that length.
Thanks,
Randy
