Losing 12 Volt supply intermittently - Ignition Switch? 120-130

I've been having an intermittent problem on my 66; sometimes I see the amp light flicker a little while the engine is running. This is happens at various engine RPM's. This doesn't seem to affect the engine running.

Sometimes the amp light comes on full brightness, and the engine cuts out (loses ignition) briefly.

The alternator and wiring were just replaced; I had been planning to do this even before the problem showed up. This had no effect on the problem.

I know the engine will run off the battery for a while if the alternator is not working. The fact that the ignition is cutting out completely seems to indicate loss of battery and alternator voltage. I suppose it's also possible that there is an intermittent 12 volt short to ground, which would also make the amp light come on and could kill the ignition.

I wiggled the wires on the back off the ignition switch, and also wiggled the wires on the back of the fuel gauge. I could not make the engine cut out by doing this.

Any suggestions as to what else I could try? If the ignition would just die completely I could track the problem down pretty easily.

Bill
