No start ... hope I'm on track. 200 1991

The starter in my '91 240 will not turn over. This happened suddenly ... it started and ran fine, then one day, nothing. I've had it about a year with no problems up to that point.

It has been sitting for a couple of months since I've got another Volvo to drive, but today, I got around to running some tests, as per Brickboard and Bentley. My best hunch right now, according to these tests, is that it's a faulty ignition switch, but is it probable that it could fail that suddenly? I have had some intermittant problems with the shift lock, not wanting to shift out of park ... could there be a link with that?

Briefly, I discovered negligible voltage at solenoid terminal 50 and backed up from there. 50A fuse, wherever that is, must be good 'cause I've got lights and horn. I've got 12V at solenoid terminal 30 from battery. Thoroughly cleaned start inhibit switch as per Art Benstein page, then jumpered across 2 blue wires and tried to start ... no go. Checked voltage at pink wire (remote start) and found 12V there. Not sure where to test for voltage at terminal 30 at the ignition switch. I have pulled the harness connector from ignition switch but haven't removed the switch yet.

That's about it. Anymore ideas before I go out shopping for the stubby screwdriver I'll need to get the ignition switch off? Always appreciate you guys ...

Jim
