Weird vacuum problem possible affecting climate control and brakes? '94 940 900

When my air direction is set in the middle, to blow straight out the dash, and then I accelerate, especially going up hill or from a stop, the air direction auto-magically moves to the floor and then slowly reverts to the dash.

I suspect there is something up with the vacuum when the engine is under stress.

The other vacuum related symptom is regarding the brakes. They are squishy. I have had them bled twice and looked over by a mechanic. He recommended replacing the master cylinder and the booster. I did neither - that was 7 months ago. It did not show the classic MC symptom of the pedal continuing to sink and the brakes are not hard to push which seems to rule out the booster.

My suspicions are that perhaps there is a vacuum leak or other problem that is related to both issues. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks!

Andy
