Ruined 2 new timing belts 700 1988

1st- thanks for so much good advice- my first post is this one- 88 740GLE not a turbo- was handed down to me after auntie passed away- has 25k miles- (she almost never drove) and has been sitting in her carport for years- I've gone over a few things- replaced both fuel pumps & filters, brakes, tires, replaced as much brittle rubber I could find. / Also changed timing belt, splashed some motor oil on the cam, and cruised blissfully for 2 weeks. Then one morning it spins teeth off the timing belt when trying to start- I pour more oil over the lifters while slowly compressing them, let the suspect lifter (cyl#1) remain compressed overnite, new belt, & next am she starts like a gem & drives all day. Next am- that belt spins out (only the crankshaft turns, the belt won't move so it looses teeth) -and that's after I've installed the belt with extra tension. Pulled the camshaft, & no broken springs, but tiny bits of rubber up inside one of the lifters (#3)- I'd appreciate any advice on this one - Werner
