First off, my beautiful 1992 240 volvo hauled me and all my stuff out to Minneapolis safe and sound! I was a bit skeptical, but she pulled that U-Haul trailer like a champ, and she got great gas millage to boot. 19MPG average under load even with all the hills leaving Oregon. I couldn't be more proud, and I wanted to say thanks to everyone that contributed help on what I needed to do to get her to that point.
That said, she's a little rough these days. I don't drive her a lot, probably every 3 days I'll take her for a spin whether I really have anywhere to go or not just to keep things moving. Lately, and not consistently, she'll stumble on the idle. I'll start it up, she runs for a second, and then dies. There seems to be no getting her to run. Then I'll come out an hour later and it's like the whole thing never happened. Fires right up. It might be worth noting that it seems to happen on colder days, or earlier in the morning when it's still a bit chilly. It might also be worth mentioning that it went almost two weeks between no-starts, and that in that time she got 25mpg city-driving.
I checked the codes, and I got a 3-1-1 and a 1-2-3, but the check engine light never comes on as I've read it's supposed to. I can clear the codes, and if she starts up it doesn't seem to throw the codes again till the next time she doesn't start.
Recently (before the trip) I changed the Air Filter Housing Thermostat out, as well as did a full coolant flush and replaced the thermostat/seal. I only include this info as it seems that when a Volvo throws a 123 code it either turns out to be the AMM or the coolant Temp sensor from past posts.
What should I be looking for??? Because I'm a student and poor, it be preferable to take care of this myself. However, I know my limitations and realize that might not be possible given the lack of space (I live in an apartment complex with little space to tear into a volvo). I'd also be interested in hearing of a recent good mechanic in the Minneapolis/St Paul area incase I need to turn this over to someone else.
Thanks for all the help and insight in advance!
Brian
