Hi all-I'm new here, peeking my head in on a suggestion from turbobricks. I have a '79 244, and until recently, I was bugged by the fact that at 70mph, I was turning almost 4000 rpm. This past weekend, I did some work on my car, changing u-joints, as well as swapping my rear axle. I went from the stock 3.91 rear end to a 3.31 out of a '86. I knew that my speedometer would be off after the swap, and now I'm looking to calibrate it. I pulled it apart, and the only thing I saw resembling an adjusment mechanism was the coil spring behind the needle. Someone on turbobricks suggested that I may be able to find the correct ratio speedometer by the four digit code at the bottom of the face, but I'm not sure what the code would be for a car with a 3.31 rear. I am using the M46 transmission, and my rear end came out of a M47 equipped car, if that helps at all. Attached are some links to pictures of the pin and spring, as well as the four digit code I was speaking about. Thanks!
