Brown Oil; Timing 700 1986

1986 740 GLE B230F non turbo, 204k miles, stored for 2 years and started up every other week. Oil not changed in 2 years. Today, oil in dipstick was gold colored. On draining oil, it was medium brown. What does that mean?

Also, I tried to check timing, but the timing mark runs all over the place. Am I supposed to disconnect something before checking timing?
