Last week my 240 started missing. I began the usual ignition troubleshooting regimen, using it as an excuse to replace some wear items (cap, rotor). Then it got worse. Ran fuel system cleaner through it, replaced some vacuum lines and the FPR. Worse yet. Replaced the fuel pump relay and cleaned the grounds. Still worse. Noticed it was appreciably worse when driving uphill. Finally bit the bullet and went to change the fuel filter, which was the first thing I should have checked.
The original filter is still on there: I guess I'm not the only one who hates getting under cars. A little surprising, since there's all kinds of evidence the PO's have done a good job at maintenance. So much rust on the pump and filter assembly that I'm just going to replace the whole mess. New pump and connection line on order from Groton's.
Filters are supposed to be replaced every couple of years, not every couple of decades. Kind of cool that they both lasted this long.
I suppose I'll recieve the parts right after the weather turns to absolute crap and I get to get under the car in driving sleet. Serves me right.
