I am starting a new thread after my other one got too confusing for my pea brain.
btw - thanks to everyone who has been so helpful in trying to insert intelligence into that pea brain during the last couple of threads!
Problem = intermittent no start (mostly no start but sometimes starts and runs fine)
1. - I have spark (checked spark with variable gap tester grounded and gap set correctly to show regular sparks coming through)
2. - I have fuel (checked plugs and they are wet, sprayed starting fluid into throttle body while cranking and still no start)
3. - I've had the upper timing belt cover off and the right side of the belt seems a bit looser than I'd expect - but when the car starts and runs it seems to run fine with no signs of bad timing, belt does vibrate pretty far while running though, I will try to tighten the tensioner soon.
4. - I've found resistance on one side of my Crank Position Sensor (140 Ohms) but no resistance between the connector's middle pin and the pin on the other side of the CPS connector.
5. - I've been unable to respond quickly to the threads I start because I have been tied up in other work issues and my 240 just sheared it's timing belt due to my failure to replace the seals in that vehicle so I'm down 2 vehicles and may be busy putting that timing belt (after seal replacement!) back on.
I am wondering if I could have spark showing but a flaky CPS causing bad ignition timing - I would assume that would cause the spark to fall on cylinders that aren't receiving fuel at the same time as the spark - therefore failing to ignite.
Is that a possible problem here? I'm about to go to the junk yard and see if I can find a CPS in a wrecked vehicle to use it to test my theory.
another option is to clean the contacts in the coil (Rex Regina System) but I think that is not necessary since I have spark.
thanks in advance - I've received far more from this board than I deserve and I hope one day I can rectify that situation!
