Has anyone ever tried to fit a late 240 dash into an early 140 ??? 140-160

Well I've replaced my early long oval style dash pad twice now and as always they split apart, not to mention they seem pretty scarce these days.
So anyway ive thought of crafting a custom dash from wood, aluminum or fiberglass. id like to have a few more and larger gauges, not to mention a center console that could house my stereo. Im sure you guys can relate to that seatbelt restricted stretch to the volume knob! so im thinking late 240 dash! always loved the simple shape, and the ample space, hell they give you 3 spare gauge spots from the factory! now im fine with some drilling, fab. and welding, i just wonder how well it will fit into the body??
im thinking i could use the existing column covers and trim as needed,
ive already swapped the trans. tunnel for the later style with short shifter so I should have center console space. Anyone masochistic enough to have tryed this already?
