So I've got an AW-70 from a '90 240 that was doing great when I pulled the engine/tranny from the car it came out of (the car was t-boned in an accident and was totaled).
I drained the transmission before we removed it from the car and it's been sitting in my shop for about 6 months now.
I changed out the oil pump and bell housing o-rings, the input/output seals, pan gasket, and shifter seals.
The transmission is now in another 240, but when I drove the car, the transmission makes a high-pitched noise that is steady and when the kickdown drops it into 2nd gear, the RPM's go up, but it really doesn't pull as it should.
Also, it won't go into overdrive...the solenoid has had the slot cut trick done to it.
This transmission was absolutely fine when I pulled it out of the wrecked car and now I have these issues. Is it possible that the clutches, etc. in the transmission "set up" or some such from draining the tranny and it being stored for a while? I'm wondering if the clutches just need for the fluid to soak in, but I don't know much about auto trannys and I'm curious why the OD isn't working now.
I'm really frustrated about this as swapping a transmission isn't a half-hour job.
Any suggestions?
