tire pressure 200 1992

Ok 240 owners—I have a question. My 92 245 has a sticker on it that lists my tire pressures as, Front and Rear 36 psi, or Optional Front 28 and Rear 30. To my understanding, if filled to the 36 psi my drive would be harsh and rough on my suspension components but would make my tires last longer. However, if set to the optional pressures my drive would be smooth and easy going on my suspension but wear away at my tires and gas mileage. Do I understand this correctly? It may cost more to replace my tires—but I hate working on my suspension.
