Hi,
My 92 240 is running like ass and I've been working the list of likely culprits. It stutters and bucks under load, as when going uphill. Runs fine at 2000 rpm or above, unless going uphill; then no power. This with a full tank of gas, so it's probably not the pickup line in the tank. I have replaced or checked the distributor cap, rotor, FPR, main fuel pump and filter, fuel relay, swapped out the throttle position switch, checked my grounds at the injector harness, and cleaned the fuel system. I have an in-tank pump on order now, but I'm wondering if that's the real issue. Here's why.
My MAF is a reman'd unit from FCP Groton I put in proactively about a month ago in my quest for better mileage. My problems started about 2 weeks after.
Today I swapped the old MAF back in and there was no change. I then unplugged it entirely so the car would revert to limp-home mode. It ran better, though not well. Check engine light came on of course (no lights before now). I examined the wiring harness plug that connects to the MAF. There is only metal in 5 of 6 openings, yet there are 6 pins on the MAF itself. Are there supposed to be 6 female pin receptacles? Is this my real issue -- bad function in the MAK caused by a faulty plug?
Please advise.
