Drivers door lock malfuction 200

1988 240DL Off White, Blue interior. 300+ miles, solid car.
The key works to unlock the rest of the doors electrically but will not complete the rotation to unlatch itself. Pulling up on the knob inside also unlocks the three doors as well and locks when depressed. The drivers door is well locked and I hear the mechanism straining to give way. I just hate to molest the door panel but I see so recourse than to take the drivers seat out and get on with it. Any suggestions? Thanks, Keith
