1st gear hesitation (85 245, manual) 200 1985

b230, 4 spd.

I seem to have a weird case of hesitation/jumping when I shift into 1st gear lately. I don't know if its all in my head though. I replaced the clutch (and transmission and OD) this summer.

You know when you release the clutch too soon, and the car kind of jerks or hops? That's what it feels like. It doesn't do it every time (if I slow it down, it shifts fine), but it also will act like I'm not fully engaging the clutch if I try to do it fast.

A good way to describe it is like when you first learn how to drive stick and your shifts are sloppy. But I've been driving stick since I was 19 (14 years now).

2nd-4th (and R) all respond how they're supposed to.

Could it be a loose clutch cable? I've almost solved my oil leak, so I don't think it's contamination on the clutch.

Could it be the CO2 sensor (or whatever it's called)? As in, maybe it's firing poor and I only notice it in 1st. I know that needs to be replaced, but I don't know how that would play a role here. It has been idling rough lately too.

Could it be the cushion (for lack of a better word) for the drive shaft?
