Melted wiper relay 200

I'm getting all set up for winter. I installed a set of heated mirrors and some Yokahama IG20 ice and snow tires on my old steelie rims. I also installed IPD's variable intermittent wiper relay. When I pulled out the old one, which I replaced about five years ago, it was literally fried....I mean even the plastic case was melted and very brittle. The wiring harness was perfect.....What's going on here? Should I worry that the new relay is going to self destruct?
