I tried to avoid it, but the headliner in my car is hanging badly, pushed down by the original, heavy insulation material that has become loose and fallen down to it.
I ordered a new, correct headliner and weatherstripping/gaskets for front and rear window. Taking a closer look today, it appears as if the windows do not have to come out when replacing the headliner. I will let an interior pro install the new headliner, but I want to prep the inside of the roof before dropping off my car.
My question therefore: has anyone of you replaced the headliner in their PV444/544? Did you prep the inside of your roof and if so, with what? I haven't "cut" the old headliner yet, but from restoration photos seen at www.alanauto.com it looks like Volvo used the same black tar stuff they used for the rest of the interior. If I can clean off the residue without spending a week of my time doing it, I wanted to paint the inside with POR, then perhaps use some Dynamat pads. Any other ideas?
