Overdrive Solenoid Wire on a Automatic Tranny - It's toast 200

It looks like my OD solenoid wire is toast, it broke between the plug connection and where it enter the shifter for the tranny. I like to run a new wire from the plug connection up into the car to where it meets the harness.

I think 14 ga wire will do the trick, does that sound right and could I replace the large white plug with blade connectors?

I open for suggestions.
