starter ground 200

My nephew is off to college and he left his 240 behind for awhile. We tried to start it recentley and the starter did nothing. I noticed the short 2" ground wire that connects the solenoid to the starter had completely corroded into a pile of ash. I'm thinking I can get a short ground wire from AZ and run it from the solenoid to the spot wire the negative battery gnd connects to the block. Anyone have a similiar experience that can verify this fix?
