240 Automatic Transmission Gear Selector is loose 200

I successfully replaced the timing belt on a 1991 240 this morning. Thanks to everyone who helped. Now I have another repair item I need to tackle.

The car is equipped with automatic transmission. Recently the gear selector became loose. By loose I mean there are plays when the selector is shifted from position to position. The selector is sitting midway between "D" and "2" when it actually selects "D".

Any idea how could I fix this problem?
