What's this black knob? Should it be an idle adjustment method? 200 1984

I've got an 84 240DL B230F with an M46.

There is a grey/black plastic threaded knob (about 1" OD) on the bottom of my throttle body? When unscrewed, it increases my engine idle. The car's been idling high when warm, so I adjusted it and about a half turn from fully tightened my idle sits around 800.

What gives? I know on my 90 LH2.4, the idle isn't supposed to be adjusted. The car does respond to the TPS being disconnected and has +12V on the IAC connector.

Here's a link to an image. If you draw a line straight from the throttle spool to the throttle return spring and continue it, you'll hit the knob I'm talking about. It's opposite the charcoal canister feed lines.
