Changed the rotors and pads on the front brakes of the 1990 745. Brakes are Bendix dual piston. Used Brembo rotors and Volvo pads. These Volvo pads did NOT come with anti-squeal shims (the ones for the other car, Girling front brakes, did).
After installation of new brakes, they squealed quite a bit, and got louder over time. It never squealed before.
Two weeks later, I applied Permatex blue anti-squeal compound. Worked for about half of a day, then squealed worse than ever.
Today I installed a set of anti-squeal shims. So far this has quieted the front brakes down a lot. But, they still will squeal a bit, especially the driver's side. I'm concerned that the squealing will get worse over time, like it did with the paste.
The pads and rotors are wearing perfectly, nice and even, smooth. After installing the new rotors and pads, I did the break-in mentioned in the FAQ.
What else can I do? Why are they squealing? How do I stop it?
