Posted on the local CL, a '92 745 with an auto described as the follows:

'car runs but is not catching first gear, i have been reversing it to move it'

I'm normally a 240 buyer, but as these are more or less mechanically the same, my thoughts are drawn towards either low/very dirty fluid or else the transmission has been trashed and a replacement will be warranted. Am I missing anything? The body otherwise appears good and the mileage is reasonable at 148k.
