Just bought an 83 Volvo Wagon and shortly after purchase the passenger wiper began wiping the vent near the windshield and then proceeded its way down to wiping the top part of my hood. I tried to gently realign it manually which worked for awhile but was probably a big mistake.

Apparently this may not be an easy fix as I found this ominous warning on a BrickBoard linked web-site:

"The Volvo 240 wiper linkage is one of the least documented and difficult
repair tasks in the car, especially if you've never taken note of what a
properly assembled unit looks like." Hmm?

Here is my question... can I pull the passenger wiper arm and run with a single wiper until I can get her to the local Volvo repair shop? I realize that from a safety standpoint this would not be good but we must use the vehicle for short commuting and minimal local driving in the interim. Right now I am letting the rain/sleet/snow mix build up and then tapping the lever up once to wipe and the passenger wiper seems to be staying in a spot about 2 inches below normal off position.

I am wondering if this problem resulted from the unfortunate pounding the car has recently been taking on unplowed icy roads and parking lots?
