Seat heater repair 200

Last year I fixed the seat heater on a 1990 Sedan by re-soldering the connection near the thermostat. This morning was planning on doing the same thing on my 245 and stumbled on something that confused me. I pulled the seat fabric down with the seat still in the car and couldn't feel the wires or the plastic dohicky thing. so I pulled the seat and found heaters that looked like these sold by IPD glued to the foam.

I pulled these seats 7 years ago from a 1993 at the salvage yard and rebuilt but hadn't noticed at the time.

I'm going to put 12V on the connector first and see what happens but I'm a little unsure what to do with them. To work on them it looks like I might need to cut them out. Does anyone have any expierence with this type? Should I replace them with the older style?
