Changing front pads: Bendix ABS 700 1988

I have only changed pads on a Bendix equipped car once. It was four or five years ago and I remember it gave me a difficult time.

Can you leave the caliper in place and simply remove the long bolt that secures the bracket at the bottom and then pivot it upwards to remove and install the pads. I use the word "bracket" to describe the piece that is held on by the two cleaned and greased pins approximately 5/16" diameter.

My previous experience had me removing the caliper assembly, inserting the pads, and then replacing the loaded caliper before bolting it in place with the two hex head fastners. My failing memory tells me that removing the one bracket bolt did not allow the bracket to pivot up and allow access to the pads with the caliper in place.

What is your experience, please?

Randy
