No acceleration 200 1988

Today after my 88 240 was idling for about 5 minutes after driving normal for
about 15 minutes i put it in gear and it would not accelerate. It would idle
erratically but would barely move. After driving for a few miles feathering the
gas just to get it home I had to pull over as it could not make it up a small
hill. Again it would idle only. Giving it the gas did nothing, like the air fuel
mixture was way off. So i shut the car off and in a few seconds started it back
up and all of a sudden everything is normal. Made it home(one mile) witout a
problem. Any thoughts. Now I am afraid to go anywhere with it.
