90-240. Clunk coming from bad control arm bushing? How to verify?

This is what I was told. How do I verify this? When I Crawl under there All looks ok to me. What is actually happening to the bushing when it makes the clunking sound. Can I pry on the control arm, and see movement? What?
Also, whats all this about scan tech bushings being crap? They sure have lots of detractors.
