93 940 non turbo needs a transmission 900

Hi Group:
My 17 year old daughter's 93 940 (non-turbo) is in need of a new transmission after 237,000 miles. Last week it started slipping and became virtually immobile. I dropped the pan, changed the filter and flushed the system over the weekend. There was some significant chunks of metal in the pan. After the service it actually seemed to work pretty well with noticeably smoother shifts, though the 2nd to 3rd shift seemed to be a bit late. Yesterday it began slipping again quite badly and reached the point it would not move from a stop.....uggh.

So, it appears I am in need of a replacement. Any recommendations on where or who to speak to. I assume the torque converter should be changed too....right? Is used generally the way to go or should I spend the big $$ for a rebuilt unit? A quick look online last night shows used prices around $400 and rebuilt $1200. That sound about right?

I assume the job is relatively straightforward as is most everything else on the car! If anyone has any words of wisdom about it I would be very grateful. I am pretty sure it is an AW71.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Scott
