VOLVO 265 terrible gas mileage 200

I know that the 265 v6 engine was known to get poor gas mileage, but I'm only getting only 7-8 mpg in the city and around 10 on the highway. Does anyone have any suggestions to improve this. I already changed the wires, plugs, changed all the brakes and calipers, moved the timing up slightly and tried as best I could to adjust the K-jetronic injection system. I was finally able to get the car to idle somewhat smooth and the idle only moves up slightly, but the gas mileage is still poor. Any tricks for getting better gas mileage.
I enjoy the car, but will have to sell it if I can't improve the gas mileage. I need something with more reasonable mpg. thanks
