tranny shift problem 700

this is my first 745 volvo.i know to adjust the auto tranny cable-tighting up a bit- to make it shifrt better. it worked some what better. my old volvo buddy told me that his 740 auto needed a tranny relay and it works fine, now, seeing that i can not find the problem can this be my problem. another friend told me that IPD sold a cross over plate where the relay is at the tranny. if anyone can help methat would be great.
