Snow tires -- avoid Hankook Winter iPike 700

FWIW... using this Hankook Winter iPike on a 245 and 745, with weight over the rear axles, with maybe 500-1500 miles experience, which does not seem like much, but includes stopping and starting at thousands of intersections. Which is the problem.

I regret buying these tires. I would not buy them again. And I would not recommend them to anyone doing city driving.

To be sure, like any snow tire they are better than non-snow tires.

And they are good in snow, whether light or heavy.

But at controlled intersections (stops) in the city, where the snowy-icy surface is burnished by braking and starting, they are un-nerving. Uninspiring. Un-everything. First I thought it was a fluke. But time after time after time they brake poorly at these places, and start poorly. Believe me; I am just a 60 year-old gentle driver.

I wish I had been able to use the set of Yokohama IceGuards that we had, and which worked a notch or two better. Poo. I remember a set of all-season Goodyear TripleTreds working better on slick surfaces. Maybe wishful thinking. But I am clearly wishing that these Hankooks would go away.
