Question about ignition timing.. 200 1986

This is kind of an odd one, but what angle should you view the timing mark from?
The engine is tilted obviously, so did they assume you'd look straight down and compensate or should you try and line your eye up with the cam and crank centerline and read the mark? If you hold your timing light on there and move your head it's a good 5 degrees difference. ?
