I could use some experienced advise. I got my 1993 240 (213,000) back in Oct but with the deferred maintenance and my busy life, a new puppy, etc i just got it out on the road this past weekend.
This is my first time driving it more than around the block. Everything was sounding and feeling normal but after a good 20 mile run in the freeway, when we came to a stop and were idling the oil light started to flicker.
There is 12v at the sensor wire, grounded wire turned on light, disconnected wire did not cause light to come on. Conclusion: I believe the wiring is OK.
With fresh 10w-30 oil, fresh mann filter and normal operating temp I got the following oil pressure readings.
idle 775 rpm = 21-26 psi
2,000 rpm = 47-50 psi
Pressures fell slightly ( 1-2 psi) as we got well into operating temps and several 2,000 rpm runs.
I know the Bentley states a very broad range of 36 - 87 psi at 2,000 rpm
With such a broad operating psi, are my reading healthy or low enough to be of concern?
Would I benefit from a oil brand and viscosity change?
Would it be a good idea to invest in an electrical oil gauge for the dash, hence a new sending unit with idiot light?
I appreciate you experience very much.
Thank you,
