89 240 automatic..... overdrive is erratic.....sometimes dash light is on and car can be in overdrive 200

so sometimes it will nor kick in and other times it comes on by itself....the weirdest being the arrow lighting up on the instrument panel and being in OD and then the light will go out and yet it will stay in OD.....A wire shorting somewhere ? Thanks in advance, Kris
