need help with finding out what to do with my volvo 240 wagon 200 1987

i hope there is someone that can help me with my dead 240 wagon. i had the car worked on recently, but its dead now. for some reason, it was dieing while i am driving the darn car.

one morning as i was leaving from home, the car was completely dead. i had a neighbor jump start it for around 10 minutes. i immediately drove to a auto repair shop to purchase a new battery and having the alternator checked. they said alternator was fine, but i really dont think he knows. after a few stops at a light, the car just suddently died and had to be pushed to the side of the road. while turning the key, it did make a cranking noise. today i tried starting it, but now its nothing. i am thinking its the alternator, but am not sure because i had the alternator replaced a year ago. it cannot go back that fast right? but also i am thinking maybe the mechanic while replacing the battery disconnected something? i noticed there is a black wire loose behind the alternator. does anyone know anything about such a case?

anyway, i would like to know what i can do or if anyone go through this same problem. i dont know if i should pan out more money to fix this or to just trash it.

thanks
