can bad temp sensor WRECK an alternator? 200

Hi,

recently encountered no charge, alternator tested bad, replaced with tested good alternator, worked 14.3 volts. Two or three trips later the temp redlines and so i add fluid and idle for 30 minutes, temp does not hit middle, but it was slightly below zero outside if I recall correctly... During this time wallmart lighter voltmeter showing 14.3 volts, so no biggie.

Two days later car redlines, but then drops drastically back to cold below middle (no voltmeter in use at time for data), and later in day lights dimming and i get a call that the car won't start. So go to find out that the charging is not happening. I got the alternator off and going to take it to get tested again, but wondering can this temp sensor be shorting out and wrecking an alternator?

I am going to replace both battery and grounding wires with new 4 gauge to eliminate that area of concern.

Original symptom of first bad alternator was that when driving and making a pit stop you could come out to find that volts are low (seems like ground issue to me)

Also noticed temp gauge would not get up to middle even after 15 minute drive. I had removed the temp-comp board about 2 years ago.

Thanks!
