cams 200 1989

While i was reading a recent post about a BBers cam issue, I thought of this-mind you Im used to American cars from the 50s-and I knew some about cams; the one I liked most at that time was the Duntov “8-18“. Duntov also made a “30-30” cam, but that was mainly designed for high speed power, not so much on take off. . The “8-18” was great for off the line, yet also good for passing at highway speeds.

Anyway-this is about Volvo cams-IF I thought I wanted to get a cam that put out a bit more horsepower-first-is something like that even available for the ‘245 bricks? Is there room at the piston head for a high lift cam or would a longer duration cam be better? Of course I am aware my gas mileage might dive a bit, but at this point Im just asking. If any are available, what could I maybe expect for horsepower gain and at what speeds? I’d like to get little more pep on take off and bit more for passing. I don’t want to go the “turbo route” for sure. I may never actually do this, but I do think about it. Thanks for your input.
