clutch actuation systems questions and opinions 240s

hi volvo sages- glad i joined this board, very helpful and intelligent answers. about to buy a 92 240 wagon with 5 speed. hear nothing but good about this model. only downside seems to be expensive parts. havent gotten under this one yet. question is ,is clutch actuation by cable or external hydraulic cylinder. guessing hydraulic because it is a late model. both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. all my experience is with the old lever and z bar systems in american cars. do know that some hydraulic clutch systems have an internal hydraulic slave cylinder which is definitely to be avoided(saturn, ford focus, etc). external slave cylinder is best since it is easy to replace. nightmare to take out a fwd manual transmission which is what you have to do to get at the slave. guessing the older volvos had the cable and the newer volvos had the hydraulic but not sure. haynes is very unclear on this point. let me know what you think and how you compare the two systems. thanks tons oldduke
