IS there a way to bypass the idiot light 200 1989

For the alternator. Fellow brick boarders helped me find my problem and I fixed it (white plug in back of cluster was cracked and isn't making good contact), but it brought another question to mind: Can we bypass this light and the alternator still charge??? IS this a stupid question that has been beat to death? I looked, but can't find anything in the FAQ'S...did I overlook it, or is it impossible??
