got a 88 245 GL here with some smoke...
currently having fuel pump relay issues (another thread) but i believe this is unrelated.
started right up (no fp relay issues this time) and let her warm up about 5-7 min. took off down the road. started smelling something funky, thought it was a burn pile or someone burning something in their fire place. (i was out in the sticks)
then i saw smoke coming up from the dash. not good. pulled over right away and shut off the car and looked under the dash to see my lamp out relay smoking. pulled it off the clip and pulled it out of the connector. i just pinpointed this as my brake light/rear tail light/running light gremlin. i pulled it out about 5 days ago and checked all the pins for continuity according to the picture in the bentley and found, i believe, pin 15 showing continuity with BOTH 14 and 13 (ie a short), and it should only be continuous with 13. this is what i contributed to my funky tail light issues. i had driven it for quite some time with the light issues. but now all of a sudden it burns up?
anyways, i am out of town and dependent on this car to get home by tomorrow evening. i figure that i can just bypass this relay and all will be ok, yes? just wondering if anyone has had this issue or has any wisdom. from the looks of the wiring diagrams, it looks safe to just bypass.
thoughts?
also i left my bentley at home, does anyone have that pic so i can be confident i am connecting the right wires together?
thanks so much
