I have a 1979 245 that has been sitting for several years. I have recently put some effort into getting it back on the road. I disconnected the fuel line at the filter and jumped the fuel pump relay such that I could pump all of the old fuel out of the tank. The pump was not noisey and provided what appeared to be a good stream. After filling the tank with fresh gas, I started the car. It started easily and idled beautifully. However, when the throttle is so much as touched, the engine cuts out until the pedal is released. The engine speed can be increased if the pedal is VERY gradually depressed. Symptom #2 is that after it has been idling for long enough to warm up, it will not start.
The engine in the car was replaced with an engine from a running car, so I suspect that some component in the car is the culprit. Fuel pump? Ignition module? 02 computer? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
