REAR ENGINE SEAL - ANSWER TO X RAY BOB 200

The seal you should use is a Timken 355660H.

The Timken is really a USA made, boxed, National seal with an "L" in front of it. It is the same color and dimensions as the original Volvo seal. I believe it is silicone as the original seal was. Applied Industrial Technologies (AIT) can order these for about $10.50.

I bought into the story that Elring made their seal out of Viton material. I purchased it through an automotive supplier. I was unable to use it.

The Elring is 93mm X 110mm X 7mm but it does not fit correctly because the crankshaft diameter measures 92mm. I also believe that they are made of black neoprene. I am in doubt as the type of material they are using. No where is it written Viton either on the seal or packaging.

The bearing house provided my seal answer. They also could not locate any seal made of Viton, with that size, within their sources. The clerk said that he believed that the Timken was made of silicone. That ended my endeavor for finding a seal made of Viton. I placed my order for the needed three seals from AIT.

When I got them in. Lo and behold, they are the same as the factory seal!
