Ignition key tip broken off -- no spare. help 200 1992

Hi
I was using the tip of my key to poke into something and the tip broke off quite easily. Called dealer and was told i kneeded the vin number and a wait. Is this the best way? Go to the dealer and get the replacement?
Not sure of best way to handle it.
