2-1-2 after O2 replacement 900 1995

late last year, the CEl came on it my wife's 1995 945 Bosch FI 8-valve wagon.

Fuel economy began to drop precipitously and a code pull tapped out 2-1-2: Bad O2 Sensor.

After a little investigation I found out that the 95 O2 sensor differs from the other years (probably something due to being a terminal model year and having only a single in-tank fuel pump.

So I laid out the $130.00 for the Bosch OEM replacement from Autozone.

The plug had an annoying extra plastic prong that had to be shaved off, it was a direct fit replacement.

Unfortunately, the code came back after a few weeks and the OBDI still kicks me a 2-1-2 code. Fuel economy still remains poor and I'm unsure what to do to get the damn code to stay off. I'd pulled the code and reset the computer *many* times and the code always comes back.

I've checked the FAQ, but aside from checking for crud on the prong connectors, there are no suggestions for what to do.

I *could* drop $140.00 for *another* O2 sensor and go with FCP or Tasca this time, but it if doesn't fix the issue, I'm gonna feel pretty damn foolish.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting to the bottom of this?

I'd like to upgrade the car to a v70 (so it would share the same mechanicals s my c70), but finances will not allow us to do that right now.

I gotta make do for a few month more - and the car is up for safety inspection in a couple days.
