leaks 200 1989

Speaking of rain leaks(?)----Ive been trying to pinpoint rainleaks that come onto my left knee-drips down from the door right above that knee from the inside top of that door whan I'm driving. Also the floors get wet-even tho we have Volvo rubber mats front and back in great shape. Few days ago when raining, spotted another leak-(we have a wagon btw)- we have a retactable tarp over the cargo area which is almost always closed-anyway-a good drip was coming out of the overhead light right on the tarp and made a "nice" puddle. The roof rack? Maybe-only thing is about 3-4 years ago I replaced ALL those rubber "bushing" things that the rack screws into with NEW ones and the rack is tight. I actually go over it occasionally and check the screws and tighten them if need be.
There's a couple concerns-about replacing all 12 of those bushings again. Is there any "sure fire" way to keep them from falling into the roof space? Some do, and those that do are still there. Also-should I put any sort of sealant around them? And-is it possible to actually over tighten them to where they start leaking? BTW-My mechanic has an older wagon-his roof rack is very loose-wiggles a lot-he never tightens it and never has replaced those bushings--and it never leaks. I am amazed as his wagon has a gazillion miles on it and looks and sounds like the proverbial "bucket of bolts"-but it serves him well. Go figure.
