With 240s becoming few and far between, I'm contemplating disassembling my solid '89 wagon with a blown rear for the parts. A local Volvo shop could offer me $300.00 for it. It may sound like a reasonable offer to some, but I'm also eventually going to need a transmission for my '91 240. An unproven rear axle and transmissions are going for $200-$300 or more if you can find one. Thus, just saving a few parts like the updated CPU make partsing it out a financial plus.
The only other possible solution would be if another Volvo enthusiast living near the rust destructo belt of Rochester,NY could use a decent body in exchange for the parts I need.
